Homer CSD Accepting Student Applicants for Board of Education

Homer CSD Accepting Student Applicants for Board of Education

The Homer Central School District is now accepting applications for student representation on the Board of Education. This role is perfect for a student who wants to make an impact on the district while advocating for the student body.

Current student representative Janelle H. is in her second school year on the board. Last spring, Janelle ran a campaign known as Breaking the Clique, a program designed to bring junior high school students out of their comfort zones to make friends with new people. Breaking the Clique is just one of the many ways Janelle has been able to impact the school community through her work on the Board of Education.

“I’ve been able to work with students all the way down in the Elementary School up through the High School,” Janelle said. “I’ve done presentations, surveys, and even hosted my own event at the junior high school. It has definitely helped me grow my confidence as an individual.”

And while being on the board is a major commitment and responsibility, Janelle stresses that it will not interfere with your other clubs or activities.

“You can still be involved in all kinds of things,” Janelle said. “I was in eight different clubs at the start of my junior year and I was able to keep up with all of them.”
