The Homer Central School District is thrilled to announce a new initiative to make our playgrounds more inclusive for all children!

Communication boards have been installed at all playgrounds throughout the district. The communication boards are large, symbol-based displays that allow children to express themselves using pictures and symbols, representing everything from nouns and verbs to feelings and activities. These boards provide an essential tool for children with limited verbal abilities to communicate and engage with their peers and teachers. The communication boards promote independence, inclusion, and interaction for all children by giving them a voice to share their wants, needs, and emotions.

The communication boards can be found at the playgrounds at Homer Elementary and Homer Intermediate/Junior High Schools.
