"Quite an Achievement": Homer Junior High Musicians Shine at All-State Festival

All-State Festival

Manlius, NY – Homer Junior High School students Lydia A., Orion B. and David V. filled the auditorium at Fayetteville-Manlius High School with beautiful music recently, as part of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Zone 3 Junior High Area All-State Music Festival.

Students were selected for performing groups based on their New York State solo scores from the previous spring, with the top scorers being selected to participate in the All-State festival. Homer competes directly with students in districts of all sizes, making it that much more difficult to qualify.

“When you consider the number of kids that play instruments in grades seven through nine throughout the Central New York Area it’s quite an achievement,” Homer Music Instructor Dave DiGennaro said. “They are a credit to the district, themselves and to the Homer music teachers who have permanently influenced their lives. They should be very proud of their accomplishments.”
