Beyond Distractibility: Navigating the ADHD Brain

Thursday, March 19
5:00-5:30pm Dinner & Sign-in
5:30-7:00pm Workshop

The March Family and Community Liaison workshop will focus on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD is not just being "hyper" or "easily distracted": it is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that often occurs alongside other diagnoses. In this training, we will learn about the sensory, executive functioning, and behavioral challenges that can commonly occur with ADHD. Participants will also learn concrete strategies to support someone with this diagnosis at school, home, and community settings.  Presenter Amanda Hudson, LMSW, Family and Community Liaison at Homer Elementary, has over 15 years of experience working in the field of developmental disabilities. Amanda will be building on the ideas presented in her sensory workshop from the 2024-2025 school year to focus on these requested topics, but this workshop will also be be helpful even for those who did not attend last year.

This workshop is appropriate for parents, teachers, and other supportive adults. NOT limited to Homer School District. For more information or to register click the button below.

March is National Social Workers Month

Social workers are well-educated, train for years and develop expertise not just to change people, but to reshape systems that can help people live far richer and improved lives. Social Workers are on the front lines, helping individuals and communities so they can overcome personal and societal challenges and even thrive. Social Workers are also adept at bringing people and communities together so they can find common ground and work to improve the welfare of all. Homer Central School District has a great team of building level School Social Workers and all of the District's Liaisons are also Social Workers. The National Association of Social Workers' 2026 Social Work Month theme honors the prime mission of the Social Work profession – to enhance human well-being, meet the basic human needs of all people, and put special attention on the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed and living in poverty. Homer Schools' Social Worker team works to honor that mission every day.
