Join NAMI’s Mental Health Awareness Month Campaign This May

Every challenge you’ve faced has shaped you into who you are today. By embracing and sharing your experiences, you empower others to do the same. Together, we create a movement of courage, healing, and connection. During the month of May, share your mental health story with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) by sending in a video, a message, a quote, or using #MyMentalHealth on social media.

IN DISTRICT OPPORTUNITY: Ending the Silence

Ending the Silence, is a free, evidence-based, one hour presentation for adults with middle or high school aged youth in their lives. Through this program you will learn to recognize the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if a youth in your life begins showing symptoms.

Cortland Mental Health Awareness Walk

The Mental Health Awareness Walk will be Thursday, May 15, 2025.
A community resource fair will be held at Cortland County Fairgrounds 4301 Fairgrounds Dr. Cortland, NY starting at 11am. The welcome message and walk will begin at 12pm. The walk leaves the Cortland Fairgrounds and continues down Homer Avenue to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and then will return back to the fairgrounds. The walk is open to the public. Homer Central School District Family and Community Liaisons and School Social Workers will take a group of students on the walk as a field trip that day.

Produce Prescription Program (PRx)

Seven Valleys Health Coalition uses a ‘food as medicine mode’ to increase positive health outcomes by improving food security and preventing/treating diet-related chronic diseases by increasing access to and consumption of more fresh produce for those who live in Cortland County. Participants will receive approximately 22 weeks of fresh produce through a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share. Home delivery of the weekly produce box provided by the CSA share is available to those enrolled in the program. Participants will also receive support and education throughout the program, and the option to attend cooking and/or chronic disease prevention and self-management classes to help lead to lifestyle change. To apply, complete the intake screening questionnaire linked below. If you are eligible for the program, you will complete a comprehensive screening process and enroll in the PRx program if you meet the eligibility requirements. Although the image says the deadline is May 1st, shares are still available!

By request we are starting a high school LEGO Club that will meet monthly. There will be a challenge each month that is announced at the beginning of the program which will last about an hour. Participants do not have to register to attend, just show up. If there are questions, please email: office@phillipsfreelibrary.org

This workshop at the Clay School in Ithaca is offered by Hospicare to grieving children, ages 8-14. This is an opportunity for children to process their grief through art by hand building a memory box. Children must be comfortable participating without their parent or guardian present.
