Posted May 18, 2012
Students in the Principles of Engineering class recently toured “Cortland Research” in downtown Homer. Cortland Research is a young emerging company launched by Electrical Engineer and Homer school district resident Steve McMahon. The company provides solutions for energy conservation that are cost efficient and user friendly. CR engineers specialize in the design of compact Radio Frequency (RF) sensors and electromagnetic systems with integrated antennas. Cortland Research is a portfolio company of the Clean Tech Center at the Syracuse Technology Garden of the Centerstate Corporation for Economic Opportunity. The Cortland Research team consists of experienced software, hardware and systems engineers that provide comprehensive solutions for energy conservation applications.
This tour enabled Mr. Steedle’s students to gain insights into the daily responsibilities of electrical, mechanical and systems engineers as well as learn about entrepreneurship, patent development and professional collaboration. Steve McMahon and his wife Heidi have been long- time sponsors of the Science and Engineering awards given annually at Homer High School’s annual award ceremony.
This year’s award ceremony will be held in the high school auditorium on Thursday, May 31st at 7:00 pm.

5th grade Art classes have quilts in the YWCA quilt show
Posted April 20, 2012
5th grade Art classes have quilts in the YWCA quilt show this weekend. The students designed the squares during the month of December in Art Class while we celebrated "Generosity" for Character Education in the Intermediate School. The students shared the author and title of a book adding their own phrase about why they enjoyed it. Illustrations were created within a snowflake shape from a book entitled Robert's Snowflakes, compiled by Grace Lin and Robert Mercer.
We had enough squares to create 5 quilts! At the end of the school year we are donating these quilts to Project Linus to share with children in need of comfort. They are on display this weekend at the YWCA quilt show in Cortland. Quilts Across Cortland 2012 will be on exhibit Saturday, April 21, 10AM-4PM, Sunday, April 22, Noon- 4PM. Admission is $5. YWCA of Cortland, 14 Clayton Avenue.
We will also have these quilts on display at future Homer Art Exhibits this Spring!
