Advanced Placement European History
40 Weeks, 1 credit
This course is open as an elective to juniors and seniors meeting two AP Prerequisites, and is open to very highly qualified, highly motivated sophomores as an enriched replacement for Regents Global History & Geography II. Sophomores must meet two AP Prerequisites and also write an essay on the topic: "My reasoning for enrolling in a college course as a high school sophomore." This essay will be reviewed by the Social Studies Department as a third criterion for admission to the course.
This course involves a substantial graded summer reading and notetaking assignment.
This course covers European history from the Late Middle Ages and Renaissance through the 1990s. While essentially a college-level survey course, AP European History is far more intricate, intense, and demanding curriculum than Regents Global Studies II, which is the standard sophomore-level Social Studies course. Great emphasis is placed on the student's ability to read and understand independently, manage large amounts of information quickly, write clearly and analytically, and participate effectively in class discussions and activities.
All students will be held to strict Class membership requirements to remain in the course.
