Homer Central School District
Health Services

Communicable Diseases

Due to the high transmission rate of illnesses among students in the classroom setting, children should not be sent to school when they are not feeling well. Below are the reasons, as stated in the district policy and procedure manual, that students will be sent home for:
1. Fever
2. Vomiting
3. Diarrhea
4. Red, itchy,runny eye(s)
5. Rashes of unknown origin
6. Live lice or untreated nits
7. At the discretion of school health personnel

All students must be fever free for one full school day without the use of Tylenol or Motrin before returning to this school. Also, students must be kept home for one full school day after they have finished vomiting and then they may return to school. This helps immensely with decreasing the transmission of germs.

The school nurse is always available to assess health concerns of students and discuss their findings with parents/guardians. Please do not send your sick or injured child to school to have the school health personnel evaluate. We can not diagnose nor prescribe for a sick or injured child. Only a medical doctor can do this.
