Important Parent Message: District Response to Newtown, Connecticut Tragedy

As you are all well aware, our nation grieves the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. Staff and parents alike worry about the safety of their children.  Your administrative team, counselors, and psychologists met on Sunday afternoon to plan for tomorrow morning.  We must assure each other, parents, and our students that we are doing everything we can to ensure a safe environment. The state police are providing statewide support at all elementary schools, by providing each building with an officer tomorrow morning as a reassurance and a show of compassion to staff, students and parents.  In addition, principals at Hartnett, Homer Elementary and Intermediate will meet with faculty before school to provide them with guidance on talking with children. The Junior High and High School staff will also receive information to assist them as needed in supporting students. Please notify your principal if you are worried about your child or with concerns about safety. We will be sending a district letter home with children tomorrow to assist you when talking with your child. In the weeks to come our District Safety Committee will be reviewing all aspects of safety in Homer schools. The goal of all these actions are to support the Homer School Community in the coming days and into the future.
